For all your rainwater tank and plumbing needs, call Danny, your local Maitland plumber.
We recently installed a mains power rainwater water filtration system for a Maitland customer.
When collecting rainwater on your property, it’s important to set up a stage 3 filtration system. The filtration system removes contaminants from the rainwater making it safe for drinking, cooking, bathing and irrigation.
The specific components and design may vary depending on the system manufacturer and the quality of rainwater being collected in your area.
Rainwater tank filtration system installation
A rainwater tank’s filtration system is designed to remove sediments, fine particles and potentially harmful contaminants from the rainwater collected in the tank.
Sediment Filter: The sediment filter is designed to remove larger particles such as sand, silt, and debris from the rainwater. Additionally, it helps prevent clogging and protects subsequent filtration stages.
Carbon Filter: A carbon filter (activated carbon or charcoal) removes chemicals, odours and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the rainwater. The carbon filter can effectively eliminate chlorine, pesticides, herbicides and some heavy metals.
Micron Filters: Micron filters are capable of removing smaller particles that are often measured in microns. They can effectively capture fine sediments, rust, bacteria and other microorganisms that may be present in the rainwater.
UV Sterilisation: Ultraviolet sterilisation utilises UV light to kill or deactivate bacteria, viruses and other pathogens present in the rainwater. This provides an additional layer of disinfection.
Automatic Backwashing: Some advanced rainwater tank filtration systems include an automatic backwashing feature that periodically cleans the filters to maintain their efficiency and prolong their lifespan. This helps prevent clogging and ensures consistent water flow.
